BREAM CREEK One of the most popular tourist destinations in Tasmania is the Tasman Peninsula. As well as the magnificent scenery, history and the variety of places to stay, many crafts people have made it their home. One such community can be found as you travel south from Sorell on the Arthur Highway, branching left at Copping to Bream Creek. This community overlooks Marion Bay - a magnificent sandy beach running to the entrance of the Dennison Canal at Dunalley. As you look across the Southern Ocean you can see Maria Island to the north-east. The Bream Creek area supports a variety of agricultural industries such as dairying, sheep farming and vineyards. There is also plenty to do as Marion Bay itself is ideal for surfing and fishing or simply sitting and relaxing on the beach backed by sand-dunes. Just out from Bream Creek is the Wielangata temperate rain forest reserve - one of the few areas of rainforest left on the East Coast. There are some good walks, either along the beach itself or for the more adventurous a longer coastal walk to Rheban, south of Orford. The area around Bream Creek is also ideal for bird watchers, with the marshes just behind the dunes at Marion Bay attracting many wanders and fairy penguins. |
